In Myanmar, the representation rate of women in public leadership is significantly lower. Armed conflict in Burma is burning as the world's longest-running domestic fire. The 17-year ceasefire in Kachin State in northern Burma ended in June 2011. This booklet, which will be used by the author, is a survey of the gender equality network of women living in IDP camps in Kachin State. In July and August 2012, the Gender Equality Network visited refugee camps to gain insight into the plight of migrant women and met with staff from 20 humanitarian relief organizations. The analysis of this booklet is a report of the needs and concerns of women living in refugee camps by the Kachin Women's Peace Network (KWPN) and the Gender Equality Network (GEN). This book publishes in January 2013 and host by Gender Equality Network. Myanmar acceded to CEDAW in 1997. CEDAW requires States Parties to take comprehensive measures to address women’s equality rights in civil, political, economic, social and cultural spheres. The Optional Protocol to CEDAW is an additional treaty which may be signed and ratified by, or acceded to by, States Parties to CEDAW. This Briefing Paper aims to access existing laws in Myanmar and their compliance with CEDAW norms. It is hoped that further, more holistic initiatives can examine more closely the impact of laws on women’s lives.
